King Places 22nd in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Fall Standings

King College (22nd) was one of eight teams in the Southeast Region and the top Conference Carolinas school in the fall standings of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Following the release of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings with the completion of the fall athletic season, King College rests inside the top-25 in all of Division II programs. The Tornado current place 22nd overall and are the top-ranked Conference Carolinas school on the list as well as one of only eight institutions represented in the Southeast Region.

King College was tabbed 22nd overall in the Division II Learfield Cup standings after the conclusion of the fall athletic season. Men’s Cross Country boosted King’s overall score, contributing 47 of the College’s 80.0 points.

The Tornado is the only Conference Carolinas school named inside the top 40 in NCAA Division II. Mount Olive is the only other Conference Carolinas institution to be recognized for the award coming in with a share of 48th overall.   

Columbus State is the only school in the Southeast Region to place ahead of King in this year’s Learfield Cup fall standings, placing 18th. Only eight schools in the entire Southeast Region were represented, two from Conference Carolinas, two from the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), and four from the Peach Belt Conference.

To date, three fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Grand Valley State (MI); men’s cross country – Adams State (CO); field hockey - West Chester (Pa.).

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women’s and seven men’s.

The next Division II fall standings will be released Thursday, December 6.
