King student-athletes earn academic all-conference
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Conference Carolinas announced their baseball and softball academic all-conference teams last week. Three King University softball players were named to the team while six baseball players earned the distinction.
For softball, Cassie Ringstaff, Fallon Thomas and Brittney Watson all earned academic all-conference honors. Ringstaff is majoring in Biology and has a 3.62 grade point average (GPA) while Thomas has a 3.30 GPA in Nursing. As an Athletic Training major, Watson has a 3.7 GPA. On the field, Thomas is hitting .287 and is tied for the team lead with six home runs while Ringstaff leads the team with 16 stolen bases.
The baseball team had seven players earned academic all-conference honors, and they are Jake Bohanon, Caleb Correll, Tim Grapes, Anthony McCoy, Cody Snyder and Reiss Stanley. Stanley and Snyder lead this group with GPAs of 3.67 while Correll isn’t far behind at 3.66. McCoy follows at 3.51 while Grapes and Bohanon round out the group at 3.28 and 3.25, respectively. Stanley also ranks second on the team with five wins and has recorded 37 strike outs this season while McCoy has a .250 batting average in 14 games.
The 2013 Conference Carolinas Softball & Baseball Academic All-Conference representatives have been awarded to the following junior and senior student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution that have played in a conference sponsored sport. The GPA is calculated based on the student-athletes cumulative average through the previous semester and each student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one academic year.
