King Track & Field athletes named academic all-conference
BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Wednesday, Conference Carolinas announced the academic all-conference team for Track and Field. Five King University student-athletes were named to the team.
On the women’s side, Carly Griffith, Maegan Henry, Ashley Ruth and Callie Todt were named while Aaron Smith earned the distinction on the men’s side. Griffith has a 3.61 grade point average while Henry carries a 3.96 GPA, and Ruth has a GPA of 3.61. Todt and Smith carry GPA’s of 3.84 and 3.5, respectively.
This past weekend, Henry set a pair of school records, and was named Conference Carolinas Women’s Outdoor Field Player of the Week. She also recorded a shot put that reached the provisional qualifying distance for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field meet.
Griffith set a season-best time of 2:24.85 in the 800 meters last weekend while Ruth posted her season-best time in the 400 meters at the same meet. Earlier this season, Todt recorded a personal record time of 1:09.51 in the 400 meter hurdles.
The 2013 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference representatives have been awarded to the following junior and senior student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution that have played in a conference sponsored sport. The GPA is calculated based on the student-athletes cumulative average through the previous semester and each student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one academic year.
Both the King men’s and women’s track teams will be in action next weekend and the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships. The meet takes place at Lees-McRae College on April 19 and 20.
