JA Jones, So., Men's Wrestling
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has announced its January Student-Athletes of the Month. Junior women’s wrestler Kerri Bumpers and sophomore men’s wrestler JA Jonesreceived the honor after being among King’s most consistent performers in any sport during the month of January.
Bumpers helped lead the Tornado to their first WCWA national championship as King defeated runner-up Oklahoma City University by two points. Bumpers finished third at 170 pounds at WCWA nationals after defeating Sherese Thomas of Oklahoma City on a fall in 0:48 seconds.
Jones has been among that nation's leaders in falls all season long, and has taken his last three wins via fall. He has an overall record of 19-6 while going a stellar 13-1 in falls this season. In the latest NCAA rankings, Jones ranked fourth with nine falls. He has since took four wins via fall.
The women's wrestling team has complete their WCWA season, and will compete at International competitions going forward. Jones and the men's wrestling team will be in action again on February 16 at the Maryville Duals in their final preparation before the NCAA Division II Regional on March 1-2 in Tiffin, Ohio.
