ADRIAN, Mich. – The King University acrobatics and tumbling team took the mat for the first time in a competition on Sunday when they faced Adrian College. The Tornado held a halftime lead, but the Bulldogs came back to take the 236.41-234.63 victory in the first meet for both teams.
Adrian (1-0) grabbed the early lead, 27.90-25.70 after the compulsory round, but the Tornado (1-0) came right back with a solid acro round. King scored 23.96 in the acro round while Adrian score 20.73 to vault King into the lead at 49.66-48.63. King extended their lead to 76.66-74.38 after outscoring the Bulldogs of 27.00 to 25.75 in the pyramid event. Before halftime, the Bulldogs cut into the lead by scoring 25.40 points in the toss event while King scored 24.45. The Tornado still held a 101.11-99.78 lead at the break.
With two events remaining, King extended their lead in the tumbling event to 145.46-142.98. King's tumbling event scored 44.35 points, outscoring Adrian's 43.20. King looked to take their first victory in the team routine, but the Bulldogs turned in a solid performance to outscore King 93.43 to 89.17, effectively outscoring King 236.41-234.63 to take the first meet.
King will host their first acrobatics and tumbling meet on Sunday when they host Alderson-Broaddus University. The meet is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. in the Student Center Complex.
