BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University's Tyler Gaby batted continued his stellar senior campaign a week ago leading the Tornado to a 4-0 week. He hit .563 for the week en route to being named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.
The Bluff City, Tenn., native posted a .563 batting average with three doubles, two triples, two runs batted in and nine runs scored. Gaby began the week with a 3-for-4 performance with a double, triple, one run batted in and three runs scored in a 12-7 win over Tusculum College.
In the weekend series with Barton College, the senior outfielder posted two hits and scored a pair of runs in each of the three outings. He tripled in the series opener and doubled to drive in a run in the finale, helping King to a sweep of the series and four wins for the week.
Gaby leads the club with a .400 batting average, 49 runs scored and 22 doubles along with four triples, four homers and 31 runs batted in. His 22 doubles leads all of NCAA Division II and his 118 total bases is good for ninth in the country.
King is riding a seven-game winning streak and the Tornado open Conference Carolinas Tournament Thursday against Pfeiffer University. First pitch from Burlington, N.C., is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The tournament starts on Thursday and concludes with Sunday's championship game.
