The King College Cheer team accomplished a first in its program history last week while participating in their annual preseason camp held at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The Cheer team placed in three events, including one first place event finish.
The Tornado Cheer team earned the program’s inaugural first place finish in the Sideline Chant event. The event allowed teams to display cheer routines that incorporate stunts, tumbling, pyramid building and jumps.
In addition to their first place finish, the team also received the highest honor for a participating team. As a result of their lofty performance, King College received a trophy naming them Most Superior Squad of the camp.
“I was very proud of the girls and how well they performed at camp,” said Cheer coach Tiffany Taylor. “This is a huge improvement from last year, and I feel as though the cheerleading program is headed in the right direction now.”
As part of the multiple events hosted during the Camp Champs competition, traditionally held on the final day of the camp, the Tornado Cheer team also earned a second place finish in the Best Cheer category.
King College was one of six Division-II institutions participating in the camp, held at UT-Knoxville. It is the third year the team has participated in the all-girl cheer camp and is first time the squad has placed in that time.
