Quarles joins Tornado staff

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College has added James Quarles III to the men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant for the 2010-11 season head coach George Pitts announced.

He comes to King after spending the past two years as the head coach of the red team at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. Quarles, who is a 2008 graduate of Augusta State (Ga.) University and four-year lettermen at the school, will help in assisting in all aspects of the basketball program. While at Augusta State he was on the 2008 NCAA Division II National runner-up squad.

Quarles has worked at many basketball camps across the country including at Oak Hill, Duke, Clemson and Stanford, and will contribute his knowledge from these different stops to King. The basketball program is very excited to have Quarles join the staff at King.

Along with Pitts at the helm, Qualles joins third-year assistant Nick Pasqua on the staff.

Quarles has a degree in health and physical education from Augusta State. During his four-year career at the Peach Belt Conference school, Augusta State went 85-38 with a regular season title included.

King is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2010 NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball National Tournament. The Tornado compiled a 24-6 record in 2009-10 including a win at NCAA Division I Appalachian State (N.C.) University. King enters the first year as a full NCAA Division II member with the 2010-11 season.
