NCCAA weekly award for Tornado's Smith

GREENVILLE, S.C. - King College's Clarence Smith was honored by the NCCAA as the Division I Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week.

Smith, a senior forward from Nashville, Tenn., closed out his collegiate career with a spot on the 2011 NCCAA Division I All-Tournament team. Smith helped King to a third-place run at the NCCAA National Tournament. He averaged 16.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in the three national tournament games. Smith finished his collegiate career No. 8 on King's All-Time Scoring List with 1,492 points.

At the national tournament Smith started with 28 points in King's first-round victory over Trinity Christian, which was a season high for the senior. He was 12-for-16 from the field with nine rebounds. The next night he added 14 points and nine more rebounds in a narrow two-point loss to No. 2 seed Spring Arbor. To end his collegiate career Smith scored six points to help King to a third-place game victory over Roberts Wesleyan with seven more rebounds.

This is the first weekly honor for Smith this season and the fifth time it has gone to a Tornado player.

The Tornado finished the season 19-15.
