Hewitt Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – King College senior Brian Hewitt has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office today. The honor is the guard's first of the season and the program's first after joining the conference this season.

The Lexington, Ky. native started all three games at the two-guard and shot the lights out of the gym, helping the Tornado go 3-0 last week on the road. Hewitt shot 50 percent from the field over a three-game span and shot .524 from distance. Thirty-three of his 48 points came via the three ball. Hewitt led the Tornado in scoring against UVA-Wise and served as the team's leading in rebounding against Carson-Newman (8). Two of King's three games were decided by double digits with the third decided by eight points in that stretch.

Hewitt scored 17 points against UVA-Wise (Nov. 15) and against Tusculum (Nov. 18), combining for an 11-for-19 (.579) shooting display over those two games. He hit seven of his 12 (.583) three-point attempts in those two games and collected six rebounds and eight assists, plus four steals. In the Tornado's rematch against Carson-Newman, Hewitt led the team with eight rebounds while scoring 14 points, hitting 4-of-9 (.444) three pointers in a 79-71 win over the Pioneers.

King enters the fall break 4-1 overall and heads into their third weekend of tournament play on the road. The Tornado will play No. 2 Mountain State (NAIA) and Bluefield State, Nov. 25-26 in Bluefield, West Virginia.
