Conference Carolinas released the Men's and Women's Basketball All-Academic Teams earlier today, and eight Tornado student athletes were among those who received the honor.
To earn a spot on the team, student athletes must be a junior or senior, have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and have been at the institution at least one year.
On the men's side, senior Eddie Piccinini and junior Brandon Crompton represented the Tornado. Piccinini, last year's Conference Carolinas Academic Athlete of the Year for men's basketball, received the honor for the second time in his career, while Crompton made the list for the first time.
In 2011-12, the King women's basketball team had the second-highest team GPA among all NCAA Division II women's basketball programs, and this year's team is continuing that tradition, with six student athletes on the All-Academic Team. Seniors Kalen Collins, Brooke Johnson and Mikki Oliver were joined on the team by juniors Kelly Jackson, Sara Mitchell, and Brittany Fields.
King's women had the most representatives on the All-Academic Team of all Conference Carolinas schools.
