NEW LONDON, N.C. - King College started the 2010-11 season Monday with an opening round 302 which has the Tornado golf team in third at the Pfeiffer Falcon Cup.
The Tornado enters Tuesday's final round at the Badin Golf Club just four shots out of first. Host Pfeiffer (N.C.) University posted a 298 while Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.) "B" squad was second at 301.
The Tornado's Josh Bamberger (Waterloo, Canada) led the charge with a two-over-par 72. The junior finished tied for third after the opening round. Nick Carden (Hixson, Tenn.) fired a 74 to land in a tie for seventh while newcomer Adrian Kibsey (Winnipeg, Canada) posted a 75 which was tied for ninth. Travis Snyder (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Tyler Welch (White House, Tenn.) both carded rounds of 81.
Pfeiffer's Luiz Jacintho owns the individual lead with an even-par-round of 70. Wingate (N.C.) University's Alex Willnow followed at 71. Bamberger was one of two golfers with a 72.
The course, a Par-70, played at 6,345 yards for the golfers.
