WILSON, N.C. – The King University men's golf team posted their second win of the season after shooting a team score of 297 in the second round of the Barton Intercollegiate at Wilson Country Club. The Tornado finished with a two-day total of 586 to top host school, Barton College by four strokes. Richard Powell's score of 144 led three King golfers in the top-10 with a third place finish.
Following a one-over 73 in the first round, Powell carded a one-under 71 in the second round for a tournament total of 144. Ross Maietta and Leennawat Numpituckchaikul finished in a tie for eighth after posting scores of 147. Maietta followed a first round 71 with a second round of 76 while Numpituckchaikul carded a 74 in the first round and a 73 in the final round.
Taylor Gouge followed his first round 71 with a second round of 77 to finish tied for 13th with a tournament total of 148. John Scott rounded out the Tornado squad with a two-day score of 159, following a second round 82.
The win is King's second of the year, as the won the Lincoln Memorial Fall Invitational in October. The Tornado posted a two-day score of 586 while Barton carded a 590 to finish in second place. Erskine College finished third at 591, while Virginia Intermont's Trevor Banks won the individual tournament with a score of 137.
The Tornado will be in action again on March 26-27 at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Landers University.
