HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Richard Powell made history on Monday as he became the first King University men's golfer to compete in an NCAA Regional Championship. Powell carded a 78 in the first round of the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Mission Inn Resort & Club.
The senor started on the back nine where he carded a two-over 39 before shooting another 39 on the front nine to end with a six-over 78. He is tied for 71st while the leader, Nova Southeastern University's Ricardo Celia leads the tournament with a first round of three-under 69.
The second round of the three round tournament will take place tomorrow. Powell will tee off at 8:20 a.m., live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
