Tornado finish 12th at season opening tournament

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The King University men's golf team wrapped up their season opening tournament with a team score of 306 in the second round of the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate. The Tornado had a tournament score of 615 to place 12th while Leennawat Numpituckchaikul carded a second round of even-par 72 to finish ninth in field of more than 90 golfers.

After shooting a 74 in the first round, Numpituckchaikul improved upon that with an even-par 72 in the final round to move up nine spots on the leaderboard. He finished the tournament with a stroke total of 146 to earn the second top-10 finish of his career. John Scott and Ross Maietta followed Numpituckchaikul with second round scores of 77. Paired with his 78 from round one, Scott finished the tournament with a total of 155 while Maietta finished at 158 after shooting 81 in the first round.

Mathias Buanes followed a 76 in round one with final round score of 80 for a two-day total of 156. Michael Chua rounded out the squad with an 80 in the final round, and 163 for the tournament.

The Tornado shot 309 in the first round, and followed that with a second round 306 to finish 12th with a two-day total of 615. Clayton State University won the tournament with a two-day total of 578 while Queens University (N.C.) finished second at 585.

King will be in action again on September 16-17 at the Kiawah Island Invitational at Cougar Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
