CONOVER, N.C. – After shooting an opening-round 308 at the Rock Barn Intercollegiate on Monday, the King University men's golf team shot a 309 on Tuesday to finish in sixth place with a 617 for the tournament. Freshman Cody Boyer led the Tornado with a 15th place finish.
Boyer was steady throughout the tournament, shooting a 76 after finishing Monday's round with a 75 to card a 151. Leennawat Numpituckchaikul was in 24th place with a 154. Ross Maietta carded a 157 for the tournament, with Mathias Buanes one stroke behind after improving by eight strokes over his opening-round performance. Ryan Hyatt rounded out the scoring for the Tornado with a 163.
King was sixth in the 11-team tournament, which was hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University. Queens University took first place in the tournament by shooting a 591. USC Aiken finished second, while North Greenville University, Wingate University, and a second Queens entry rounded out the top five.
The Tornado finished six strokes behind fourth-place Wingate and just four strokes behind the alternate Queens team. The fourth through eighth place teams were separated by a total of ten strokes.
The Tornado have now completed the fall portion of their schedule and will return to action in the spring.
