BRISTOL, Tenn. – Head Coach Louis Thorpe and the King Tornado men's soccer team have released their schedule for the 2012 season. The Tornado will begin the year on Aug. 30 on the road at Lenoir-Rhyne University to kick off an 18-match regular season slate.

Of King's 18 regular season matches, 10 will be against Conference Carolinas competition as the Tornado enter their second full season as a member of the conference. Following six non-conference matches to start the year, second-year head coach Louis Thorpe will lead his team into Mount Olive, N.C. for their first league match of the season on Sept. 15, against the Mount Olive Trojans.

The Tornado will waste no time diving into the best of last year's teams when they host the defending regular season and conference tournament champion Coker Cobras for the team's home opener on Sept. 18. The home game against the Cobras begins a four-match home stand that consists of three teams that finished 2011 with .500 or better overall record and advanced to the postseason.

After completing a four-game stay at Parks Field (Bristol, Tenn.) the Tornado take to the road for three of their next five matches beginning with Limestone College on Oct. 6, followed by Queens University of Charlotte (Oct. 10) and Pfeiffer University (Oct. 13). King will break up the road trip by hosting Erskine College prior to closing out their final two road games. Closing out the road and conference schedule is a match against defending West Division champion Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. King notched its first ever Conference Carolinas victory against the Bobcats in a monster 4-3 upset win at home and served as one of only two league defeats Lees McRae endured last season.

King will close the regular season with one final home contest while they host Trevecca Nazarene University for their Senior Day on Oct. 27.

Last year, King finished the season 5-10-2 overall and sported a 5-5-1 league record while advancing to the Conference Carolinas Tournament at season's end. Their regular season finale win over Queens (N.C.) in a 1-0 overtime decision clinched their spot in the postseason, setting up a first-round rematch between Lees McRae in what proved to be a nip-tuck match that went down to the bitter end in a 2-1 decision favoring LMC.

All-Conference and All-Region selection Tom Winspear led the team with 15 goals and 33 points while becoming King's all-time leading goal scorer in 2011. Winspear will return to the team as a graduate assistant coach, making way for junior midfielder Zach Caracciolo. Caracciolo is the team's lead returning goal scorer after he posted six goals and three assists last year.

King will engage in a friendly on Aug. 22 at home against Tusculum College, beginning at 6 p.m. from Parks Field.
