King Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams Defeat Milligan but Fall to Mars Hill

BRISTOL, TENN. – The King men's and women's swimming and diving teams won against Milligan Saturday afternoon at Tennessee High School.  Mars Hill defeated both Tornado squads in the meet.

The King women won over Milligan by a score of 66.00-54.00 and lost to Mars Hill 83.00-41.00.  The Lady Tornado got off to a good start by winning the 200-yard medley relay.  The team of freshman Sami Norman (Roanoke, Va.), freshman Rachel Fuller (North Augusta, S.C.), sophomore Sarah Hennies (Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii), and junior Kelsey Wiese (Gallatin, Tenn.) posted a time of 2:00.40 in the event and earned a narrow victory by less than one second. 

Wiese also won the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:01.78.  Her third victory of the afternoon came in the 50-yard freestyle with a clip of 25.82.   

Norman took her second event victory of the day in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.64.  Fuller also added a second event victory by winning the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:24.90.  Senior Melissa Smith (Maryville, Tenn.) gave the Lady Tornado their sixth event win of the day in the one-meter diving event with a score of 82.10.

The King men defeated Milligan (59.00-55.00) but fell to Mars Hill (99.00-20.00).  The Tornado finished second in four events on the afternoon.

Sophomore Jacob Morales (Wailuku, Hawaii) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.65.  Freshman Reynold Thibideau (Titusville, Fla.) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (58.81).  Junior Alek Nochowicz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) swam a 2:10.64 clip and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Taylor Horton (Conyers, Ga.), freshman Christian Knobloch (Auburn, Wash.), freshman Phillip Leckenby (Mt. Juliett, Tenn.), and senior Mason Edmonds (Johnson City, Tenn.) placed second with a time of 3:32.01.

The Mars Hill men also defeated Milligan, 92.00-30.00, and the Mars Hill women beat Milligan, 95.00-27.00, to give the Mountain Lions a sweep for the afternoon.

The King men and women will be back in the pool on Fri., Oct. 26 at Pfeiffer and will face Brenau (Ga.) as well.
