King cruises to sweep of Lees-McRae
BANNER ELK, N.C. – The King University men's tennis team earned their second Conference Carolinas victory of the season with a 9-0 win at Lees-McRae College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tornado (8-5, 2-3 CC) set the tone in doubles play as William Boyce and Rafael Francisco took an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Rodrigo Avila and Pablo Vidal took an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Patrick Jones and Leo Brigato followed suit with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
It was more of the same in singles play as Boyce defeated Adam Chivers of Lees-McRae (0-11, 0-6 CC) 6-1, 6-0. Francisco took a 6-0, 6-2 win a No. 5 singles while Jones took a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 4 singles. Avila took his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2, and the best two matches of the day came at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Vidal defeated Taduez Poplawaski 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, and Brigato topped Carlos Pinel 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 to seal the 9-0 win.
The Tornado return home this weekend when they host Barton College on Friday, and Limestone College on Saturday.
