King sneaks past Pfeiffer
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – After dropping their last match, the King University men's tennis team registered a hard fought road win on Monday. The Tornado topped Pfeiffer University 5-4 behind four wins in singles play.
The Falcons (9-6, 4-4 CC) took the lead early with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, King's Leo Brigato and Patrick Jones defeated Luis Villalta and Orlando Castillo 8-2 to get the Tornado (10-6, 4-4 CC) on the board.
In singles play, Pablo Vidal, Brigato and Jones all took straight set wins. Vidal topped Sebastian Wernecke 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Brigato defeated Ben Hunter 6-2, 6-3, and Jones beat Villalta 7-5, 6-4. Rodrigo Avila won clinched the match for King with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Loic Minery at No. 1 singles.
The Tornado will be in action again on Thursday when the travel to take on UNC Asheville. The duel match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
