BRISTOL, Tenn. – On the strength of two super tiebreaker wins, the King University men's tennis team scored an 8-1 victory over Mars Hill University at the King Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tornado (3-4) were nearly perfect on the afternoon, with Mars Hill (3-5) only able to take a win at No. 1 singles. Luis Delgado won a tight battle with at No. 3 singles, taking the first set 6-2 before falling 6-7 (4-7) in a heated second set. Delgado was able to rally in the third set for an 11-9 win in the super tiebreaker format.
No. 5 player William Boyce also saw his match go the distance. Facing off against Blake Covington, Boyce took the first set 6-2 before Covington took a 3-6 win in the second. Boyce then gave King another win in singles play with a 10-6 victory in the third set.
In doubles play, King's top duo of Avila and Leo Brigato scored an 8-5 win. Delgado and Pablo Vidal won their No. 2 doubles match 8-6, and Poswiat and Carelli rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 win in the No. 3 position.
King continues the spring portion of its schedule with a 2:00 p.m. match tomorrow at conference foe North Greenville University.
