ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The King University men's tennis team traveled to take on NCAA Division I foe UNC Asheville on Friday afternoon. The Tornado took one match, but ultimately dropped the dual 6-1 to the Bulldogs.
King (4-7) tried to get on the board in doubles play as all three matches were tight. The No. 1 doubles team of Rodrigo Avila and Leo Brigato dropped a narrow 8-5 decision to Brett Landau and Alex Croker while Pablo Vidal and Luis Delgado fell to Josh Swindler and Daniel Kripak 8-4 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 duo of Moritz Poswiat and Seth Carelli turned in the closes match in doubles, falling 8-6 to John Schubel and Will Goldberg.
In singles play Poswiat took King's only win. He led his No. 5 singles match 5-1 before his opponent retired. Brigato nearly came away with a win as well. He dropped the first set 7-5, but rebounded to take the second set 6-4 and force a third set. However, Landau took the third set 10-4 to give UNC Asheville (5-5) the 6-1 win.
King returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when they travel to Erskine College. The dual is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., in Due West, S.C.
