Booher inks six for 2014

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University men's volleyball coach Ryan Booher announced his signees for the 2013 class. The six newcomers will look to make an impact for the Tornado in the 2014 season.

"I am very excited to see what this class will offer to our men's volleyball program. All six of these freshman will be able to compete for a starting position," head coach Ryan Booher said. "They will work hard on the court and in the classroom for our Tornado men's volleyball team."

Chris Gerber - Franklin, Mass. (Mount Saint Charles Academy)

Chris Gerber comes to King after a successful career at Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket, R.I., where the middle blocker helped lead the Mounties to a state championship in 2010. Most recently, the Mounties finished second in Division 1 North and advanced to the state semifinals in 2013. Gerber hails from Franklin Mass., and was named Rhode Island Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2013. He was a three-year started and was a first team All-Division, and first team All-State selection during his senior season. Gerber was also a three-year starter on the Mount Saint Charles basketball team. He was on the Honor Roll all each term and earned high honors recognition each of his junior and senior years.

 


Chandler Wellman - Brenham, Texas (Brenham)

Chandler Wellman comes to King from Brenham High School in Brenham, Texas. He was a member of National Honor Society and Student Council while graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2013. Wellman also was a student assistant coach for the Brenham girls volleyball team. Standing at 5'11", Wellman played libero for his club team, AVA 18 Rox.

 

 

Kiel Bell - Boca Raton, Fla. (Spanish River Community)

 

Kiel Bell attended Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Fla., where he helped the Sharks win district and regional championships in 2011. In 2012, the 6'0" right side hitter helped his OBV 17s team win an East Coach Championship. That same year, he was named the Most Valuable Player at Spanish River Community High School.

 

 

 

Pete Sowers - Richmond, Va. (James River)

Coming to King from Richmond, Va., libero Pete Sowers helped James River High School win back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011. The 5'8" Sowers was a four year starter for the Rapids, at outside hitter his first three years before moving to libero for his senior season. In 2012, Sowers helped lead the Rapids to a district championship. During his senior season, he was selected first team All-District and won the Coach's Award. In his junior year his team won the Virginia High school Showcase Tournament and Sowers earned the Sportsmanship Award. Sowers was also on the James River Dean's List in both 2011 and 2013.

 

Nathan Veli - Harrisburg, Pa. (Central Dauphin)

 

 

Nathan Veli played for Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, Pa., helping the Rams to back-to-back State semifinal appearances in 2012 and 2013. The Rams won the District III championship, before finishing second in 2013. The 5'10" libero earned volleyball letters in both 2012 and 2013 while earning Mid Penn All-Star honors in 2013. He also competed in cross country, earning a letter, and qualifying for districts in 2012. Veli was also on the Central Dauphin Honor Roll. The Harrisburg, Pa., native played his club volleyball for Yorktowne.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kaeler Sullivan - Richmond, Va. (James River)

Kaeler Sullivan inked his letter of intent to play for King after helping James River High School to consecutive state championships in 2010 and 2011. While helping the Rapids to the state title in 2011, the 6'3" outside hitter earned second team All-District honors. Following his senior campaign in 2012, Sullivan garnered first team All-District and All-Region honors.
