BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Wednesday night, March 26, King University's men's volleyball team will collect donations in memory of classmate DeShaun Greer who was tragically killed on March 23. During the match against Lees-McRae College, donations will be collected for the DeShaun Greer Memorial Fund. The memorial fund will help with the cost of the funeral services and other expenses.
"DeShaun Greer played as hard as anyone that I have coached in my eight years at King. He was a true teammate in every sense of the word and was one of the most likable players on the team," head men's basketball coach George Pitts said. "DeShaun was a bright young man who will be missed badly by the King University men's basketball team. Our heart and prayers go out to his parents, Stanley and Kim, and to his girlfriend, Heavenly."
"It's heartbreaking to see such a bright young life end in such a tragic manner. Our prayers are with DeShaun's family and friends," said King athletic director David Hicks. Our immediate reaction is to keep DeShaun's family in our prayers and reach out to meet their immediate needs. Coach Pitts and others from the King community have reached out to the family and we are ready to serve in any manner we are able."
Prior to the match, a moment of silence will be observed in DeShaun's memory. Please come out and help the Tornado remember King student and friend DeShaun Greer. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
If you can't make it to the Student Center Complex on Wednesday night and want to contribute, a website has been setup to take donations to help with the costs of the funeral and other expenses. To donate click the following link: http://www.gofundme.com/6bgzq4.
