NEW ORLEANS, La. - King College starts 2010 as the No. 5 squad in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association preseason NCAA Division II southeast regional men's rankings, the organization announced.
King was the only independent squad in any of the eight regional ranking. The Tornado enters the Top-5 with Queens (N.C.) University of Charlotte, Columbus State (Ga.) University, Mars Hill (N.C.) College and Clayton State (Ga.) University who were ranked No. 1 to No. 4, respectively.
UNC Pembroke, Wingate (N.C.) University, Lees-McRae (N.C.) College, Anderson (S.C.) University and Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University made up teams from No. 6 to No. 10.
The South Atlantic Conference had four of the Top-10 teams led by Mars Hill. Wingate, Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne also represented the league. The Peach Belt placed Columbus State and Clayton State among the Top-4 and UNC Pembroke was the other Peach Belt team. Queens and Lees-McRae were the only two Conference Carolinas members in the ranking.
The order was selected by a representative in each region and the preseason ranking was based on returning and new runners on each squad. The next regional ranking will be released on Sept. 21.
