Men’s Cross Country Retains No. 2 Regional Ranking

The latest USTFCCCA regional rankings were released early Tuesday morning and recognized the Tornado men's cross team as having held on to the No. 2 Southeast region spot.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its weekly regional rankings for NCAA Division II. The King men's cross country team retained its No. 2 ranking in week three after a strong showing at the Pre-Conference Carolinas Championship meet last week.

Overall, the men's Southeast region rankings nearly went unchanged from week two with the only alteration coming near the bottom of the top-10 list with Lenoir-Rhyne cracking into the rankings and Flagler jumping one position. King held on to its spot as the No. 2 team in the region, slightly behind conference foe Mount Olive College.

The rankings come just four days after King swept the competition at the Pre-Conference Carolinas Championship meet held at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 5. The Tornado nearly took away a perfect score (15) by taking six of the top seven spots in the individual standings. Jordan Noe (Morristown, Tenn.) won his first race as a collegiate runner, clocking in a time of 16:10.13 on the 5k course. King earned 17 points and a first place overall finish at the meet.

The women's cross country team stood strong in their fifth place ranking in this week's regional release. They also won first place overall at the Pre-Conference Carolinas Championship meet last week, led by Evan Farrell's third overall finish.

Regions in Division II are determined by conference affiliation. Many from the Central and South Central regions switched regions for the 2012 season. USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Both teams will take the next week to train for the 2012 Conference Carolinas Championships, held at Frank Liske Park (Concord, N.C.) on Oct. 19. The women's race will begin at 4 p.m. EST while the men's race will begin at 5 p.m. EST.

The NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship will follow on Saturday, Nov. 3 at McAlpine Creek Park. Click here for the USTFCCCA regional championship website.
