Witt, Frantom named Conference Carolinas Runners of the Week
BRISTOL, Tenn. - Both the women's and men's cross country teams had a strong opening weekend of team competition, placing second and first respectively at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. on Friday. Conference Carolinas announced today that Tornado runners Hannah Witt and Spencer Frantom were named Runners of the Week after their impressive individual performances at the meet.
Witt opened her senior campaign with a dominating performance at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. on Friday night. In a meet comprised of both Division I and Division II runners, Witt was the first runner in either division to cross the line. She finished in a time of 18:24.79 which was 35 seconds faster than the second place runner. Her time was also only seven seconds off of the King school record of 18:17, set in 2010.
Frantom led the Tornado to a win in their first meet of the year, the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C. In a meet comprised of Division I and II runners, the senior finished third in the 145 person field with a time of 26.30.14. As a team, the Tornado won the Division II section of the meet, coming in ahead of Mars Hill College.
Both teams next compete at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. on September 20.
