MARS HILL, N.C. - The King College softball team fell twice Saturday at Mars Hill (N.C.) College. The opening game needed 10 innings, but Mars Hill came out with the 6-5 decision before closing the doubleheader out with a 7-4 score in game two.
The Lady Tornado went to 0-4 after the two games while Mars Hill owns an 8-5 mark.
In game one a throwing error allowed the game-winning run to score. Ashley Seawell reached on the error by Samantha Watts (Nashville, Tenn.) and Amanda McArthur came around from second to end the game.
Watts suffered the defeat on the mound as she scattered eight hits in nine innings.
Mars Hill's Hannah Light threw six innings of relief for the win. The only run she allowed was unearned and she struck out four.
A four-run third was not enough for the Lady Tornado in game two. Mars Hill had four in the fifth to take the lead 5-4. Two insurance runs were scored in the sixth by the home team.
The Lady Tornado's Rachael Wilmoth (Morristown, Tenn.) allowed four earned on a dozen hits.
Mars Hill got seven innings from Taylor Morris. All four of her runs were unearned on seven King hits. With the bat Morris went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Kendra Reeder and her two hits provided three RBIs.
