BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second time this year, King University softball pitcher Emma Hughes has been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). This week she was named ECAC Rookie of the Week after earning a pair of wins and helping the Tornado sweep 18th-ranked Limestone College.
Hughes had a big week for the Tornado, going 2-0 with a pair of complete games, running her season total to 15 and adding her first career save. She opened the week with a seven innings of four-hit ball, allowing one run in a win at Lees-McRae.
Hughes capped the week with a complete game and a save, striking out nine in a doubleheader sweep of 18th-ranked Limestone College. In the opening contest, she tossed a complete game, striking out six and allowing one run on three hits. Hughes then tossed the final two innings of game two, retiring all six batters she faced and striking out three, giving the Tornado the sweep. For the week she posted a 0.88 ERA and 0.50 WHIP.
Earlier this season, Hughes was selected ECAC Pitcher of the Week.
King is in action again on Thursday when they travel to take on Converse College. First pitch from Spartanburg, S.C. is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. King is then scheduled to host fourth-ranked Pfeiffer University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
