BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time in program history, the King University softball team is ranked in the NCAA Regional Rankings. Following their Conference Carolinas Tournament title, the Tornado are ranked ninth in the final NCAA Regional Rankings of the year.
The University of North Georgia, Lenoir-Rhyne University and Georgia College remain in the top three spots while Limestone College is the highest ranked Conference Carolinas team at eighth. Fellow Conference Carolinas member, North Greenville University is ranked 10th in the latest poll.
The Tornado are 10-8 this season against teams that are ranked in this week's NCAA Regional Rankings. The only teams King has not squared off with this season are top-ranked North Georgia and fifth-ranked Queens University.
King went 5-1 last weekend at the Conference Carolinas Championship, defeated North Greenville 15-2 and 7-0 in the final day for their second Conference Carolinas Tournament title. The wins also matched the program record of 34 wins in a season. The last time King made an NCAA Regional Appearance, the Tornado won 34 games in 2012 and traveled to take on North Georgia.
The Tornado clinched their second regional appearance, winning the conference tournament last weekend and await who and where they will play. The NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show is scheduled for Monday at 10:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.
