    Devotie selected CoSIDA Academic All-American BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the first time this year, a King University student-athlete has garnered CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. Tornado softball player Hannah Devotie was selected third team All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), when the awards were announced on Wednesday.

    Three Tornado selected CoSIDA Academic All-District BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Thursday the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced their Academic All-District honorees for baseball and softball and three Tornado were selected. Both Ryan Whitt and Dylan Sligh of the King baseball team earned recognition as well as Hannah Devotie of the Tornado softball team.

The Trojans scored four runs in the first two innings and held on for the 6-3 victory.

    First inning runs gives King win over BAC BURLINGTON, N.C. – In another elimination game in the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament, seventh seed King University scored early and Hayley Smothers made the run standup for the Tornado against sixth seed Belmont Abbey College. King scored twice in the first inning, and Smothers shutdown the Crusaders, giving King the 2-1 victory.

    Tornado hold off late NGU rally to stay alive in CC Tournament BURLINGTON, N.C. – Playing their second games of the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament, seventh seed King University and fifth seed North Greenville University left everything on the field on Friday afternoon in an elimination game. The Tornado held a 4-1 lead only to see the Crusaders even the score in the sixth. However, King regained the lead in the seventh and then turned a double play with runners on second and third to end the game and give the Tornado the 6-5 victory.

    Four Tornado selected All-Conference Carolinas BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament started on Thursday morning and following the completion of the first six games, the league held a banquet to announced their All-Conference Carolinas award winners. Seniors Hannah Smith and Amber Walker led the way for the Tornado with their first team selections while Hannah Devotie and Alliyah Sands garnered second team recognition.

The Falcons scored six runs in the third inning and used a stellar pitching performance to take the game 6-0.

    Crusaders take pair from King in regular season finale TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The King University softball team closed the regular season with a pair of tough Conference Carolinas losses at North Greenville University. After King evened the score at six in the top of the seventh inning in game one, the Crusaders scored in the bottom of the frame to take the contest 7-6. King again tried to comeback in the nightcap, but the Crusaders held on for the 4-3 win to jump the Tornado in the league standings.

    Smith tosses complete game, giving King split with Barton BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team came back from a split on Friday with another split in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday when they hosted Barton College. The Bulldogs rode their pitcher to a 2-0 victory in game one before the Tornado used a pair of hits from Hannah Devotie and Alliyah Sands to take a 5-3 victory behind a complete game from Lauren Smith.

The doubleheader that was scheduled for the Tornado on Wednesday at Concord University has also been canceled. Neither twinbill will be rescheduled.

    Southern Wesleyan comes back to split with King CENTRAL, S.C. – In what were a pair of back-and-forth games, the King University softball team split a doubleheader at Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado held off the Warriors to take game one 7-4, but Southern Wesleyan scored four late runs to overtake the Tornado 6-3 in the nightcap.

King got a pair of complete game performances in the circle from Hayley Smothers and Lauren Smith to defeat Lees-McRae College 5-2 and 3-1.

    Tornado offense explodes to split at W.Va. Tech SMITHERS, W.Va. – The King University softball team traveled to take on West Virginia Tech in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Bears came back to take game one 5-4 behind runs in the seventh and eighth innings. King answered in the nightcap, putting up 10 runs in the fourth inning to take the split with the 13-0 victory.

The Trojan offense scored in nearly every inning of game one, taking the contest 8-5. Mount Olive then used a big sixth inning to take game two 12-2.

The Lions took game one of the doubleheader 3-2 before the Tornado offense erupted for 18 runs in game two, taking the contest 18-0.

The home softball doubleheader against Limestone College has been postponed and rescheduled for April 15 at 2:00 p.m., and the men’s and women’s tennis duals at North Greenville University scheduled for Saturday have been rescheduled for April 20 at 2:00 p.m. in Tigerville, S.C.

The Tornado split with the Falcons after falling in game one 12-2 and then bouncing back to take a 2-0 victory in game two. Hannah Smith batted in two runs to give King the win, backed up by the Tornado defense, led by Hayley Smothers on the mound with the shutout.

    Tornado split ConfCarolinas series with Belmont Abbey BELMONT, N.C. – The King University softball team traveled to take on Belmont Abbey College in their first Conference Carolinas road series. The Tornado ended the day 1-for-1 as the fell in game one 5-4 and took game two 3-0. King was unable to top the Crusaders with a chance to take the lead in the sixth inning in game one but Hayley Smothers was able to shutout the Crusaders in game two.

    King hits 7 home runs, splits with UVa-Wise WISE, Va. – The King University softball team came away with a tough split at UVa-Wise on Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers took a walk-off win, 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one before the King offense put up 12 runs in game two. The Tornado took the nightcap 12-8 to salvage the split.

    King tops Columbus State for first win HICKORY, N.C. – The King University softball team played a- pair of tough teams on the final day of the Lenoir-Rhyne Tournament and the Tornado came away with their first win of the season. In their second game of the day, King defeated Columbus State University 9-7 behind a 10-hit effort. Earlier in the day, King played a tight contest with #10 Georgia College as the Bobcats pulled away late to take an 11-1 victory.

It appeared as though the Tornado would take game one, but the Flames scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the 9-8 win. Lee then took another come-from-behind victory in the nightcap, 6-4.
