Swallow Leads King after Round One of Tusculum Fall Classic

Freshman Elizabeth Swallow leads the King starting five with a first round 80 at the Tusculum Classic.

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The King Lady Tornado golf team finished day one of the Tusculum Fall Classic in eighth place out of 11 teams. Elizabeth Swallow leads King after shooting a first round 80 at the Links Hills Country Club.

Swallow, a freshman from Berkshire, England, paced the Lady Tornado with an 18th overall finish, finishing the back nine strongly with a 38. Her first round 80 (42-38) on the par-72 course was the best among the King squad in her first collegiate event.

Both Anna Walker (Marion, Va.) and Kerby Jones (Franklin, Tenn.) led after nine holes, turning in a pair of 41 scorecards and finished behind Swallow after completing their first run-throughs of the course. Walker turned in an 84 (41-43) to finished tied for 32nd place and Jones just behind her with an 85 (41-44) and share of 36th place.

Cortnee Young shot 44 on both the front and back nine for a first round score of 88 while senior Esther Gandarias shot a first round 90 (48-42).

In King's first event of the year, they find themselves in eighth place with a team scorecard of 337. Converse College and North Greenville both stand in front of the Lady Tornado in a tie for sixth 12 strokes ahead while Catawba College sits in fifth after a 323 first round score.

Lincoln Memorial (308) currently holds the lead after one round of play while UNC-Pembroke and host Tusculum College sit three strokes back in a tie for second place.

The second round of the two-day tournament will begin Tuesday morning from Link Hills Country Club in Greenville, Tenn. Live stats are being provided as scorecards come in and available on www.KingTornado.com.
