SALISBURY, N.C. – Elizabeth Swallow shot her second sub-80 score in the final day of the 2012 Patsy Rendleman Invitational, helping King to a fifth place team finish. The Lady Tornado shot a two-day score of 642 at the par-72, 5,998-yard Country Club of Salisbury.
Freshman Elizabeth Swallow (Berkshire, England) shot a second round 76 to make for a tournament score of 151, her lowest two-day total of the season. Her score placed her in a tie for fourth overall in the field of 87. On Monday, Swallow tied her season-low with a first round 75.
The Lady Tornado placed fifth overall as a team, putting together a 328 second day total and posting a 642 for the entire tournament. This is now the second time the team has lowered their season-low score for a tournament this season and serves as the best tournament show this season.
Newberry College won the tournament by shooting a 598 as a ream, 17 shots better than second place Tusculum College (615). Lincoln Memorial University (624) and UNC-Pembroke (632) both preceded King to round out the top five schools at the Rendleman Invitational.
Newberry also featured the tournament individual winner, Barbara Castro, who finished two-under par (142) after shooting the lowest first day score (69) and following on Tuesday with a 73.
Cortnee Young (Cleveland, Tenn.), Anna Walker (Marion, Va.), and Esther Gandarias (Madrid, Spain) all shot second round scores of 84 on Tuesday. Young finished with a 161 (77-84), good for a share of 29th place overall. Walker tied for 31st overall with a 162 (78-84), and Gandarias tied for 50th with a 168 (84-84).
Kerby Jones (Franklin, Tenn.) finished with a 175 (87-88), good for a share of 64th place.
The Patsy Rendleman Invitational rounds out the Lady Tornado's fall season, which featured steady progression through the team's four tournaments. They highlighted their fall portion of the schedule with a team second place finish at their home tournament on Oct. 8-9.
