SALISBURY, N.C. – The King Lady Tornado women's golf team shot a score of 314 and is fourth of 16 teams after day one of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, hosted by Catawba College. The team round of 314 is the Lady Tornado's best of the season so far, and King led all schools with 10 birdies for the day.
Freshman Elizabeth Swallow (Berkshire, England) continued her stellar play with a three-over par round of 75, which included three birdies and is tied for fifth individually.
Sophomore Cortnee Young (Cleveland, Tenn.) shot 36 on the front side and followed that with a 41 on the back for a round of 77 and is tied for 12th. Young had three birdies during her round also. Sophomore Anna Walker (Marion, Va.) shot 41 on her first nine but rallied for a 37 on the back to tie for 15th after a round of 78.
Senior Esther Gandarias (Madrid, Spain) is tied for 46th after day one with a round of 84 (45-39). Gandarias was the third member of the Lady Tornado to have three birdies. Junior Kerby Jones (Franklin, Tenn.) shot an 87 (46-41) to tie for 60th.
Newberry College is in first place after day one with a team score of 294, 20 shots ahead of the Lady Tornado. The Patsy Rendleman Invitational will conclude after the second round tomorrow.
