Nine Tornado wrestlers among best in NCAA Division II Super Region II

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College placed nine wrestlers in the NCAA Division II Super Region II preseason weight class rankings, released by the organization.

Frank Morgan was the highest Tornado in the rankings at No. 2 in the 197-pound class. The junior from Maynardville, Tenn., was a NAIA National Runner-Up in 2009 with a 23-8 record in the same weight class. In his freshman season of 2007-08 he was a NAIA National qualifier.

Senior Shad Rissler (Washingtonville, N.Y.) was ranked third among the 141 pound grapplers. He was a NAIA All-American in 2009 after qualifying for the NAIA Nationals in 2007 and 2008. In his previous three seasons he has combined for a 61-41 record.

John Erickson (Virginia Beach, Va.) enters the 2010-11 season as the No. 4 133 pound wrestler in the region. He went 7-2 a season ago after earning NAIA All-American honors in 2009.

Phil Ramirez (Virginia Beach, Va.) was ranked fourth in the 157-pound class. In the 2008-09 season he went 17-6 in the 149-pound bouts before redshirting last season.

Brandon Tressler (Orlando, Fla.) starts his sophomore season at No. 4 in the 184-pound rankings. He was a NAIA National qualifier in 2009 in the 174-pound division.

Dakota Moore (Pemberton, N.J.) comes to King after winning the NJCAA Nationals a season ago in the 174-pound division which helped him to the No. 5 region ranking in the same weight class.

Dondricus Anderson (Macon, Ga.) was placed No. 6 in the 285-pound class after redshirting last season. He has two trips to the NJCAA Nationals on his resume prior to King.

Nick Stella (Sweet Home, N.Y.) has the No. 6 spot among 149-pound wrestlers in the super region. He redshirted a season ago after a trip to the NAIA National Championship as a 141-pound wrestler in 2009.

Ryan Lowery (Saltville, Va.) also was No. 6, but in the 125-pound division.

Overall King ranked third with nine wrestlers in the 10 weight classes. Only defending NCAA Division II National Champion, Nebraska Omaha and the University of Findlay (Ohio) were able to have a wrestler in every weight class.

The 2010-11 schedule starts for the Tornado on Nov. 7 with the Hokie Open in Salem, Va.
