Action will begin from inside ARENA at the University of Colorado – Pueblo at 11:00 a.m. MT on Friday morning. Super Region 2 champion at 141 pounds will lead off the King lineup that will compete at the National Tournament.
Claxton finished the 2011-12 season with a 19-6 overall dual record including one win by technical fall. The freshman from Cleveland, Ohio made a splash in the region, sporting a 15-2 record and obtaining a first overall ranking heading into the Super Region 2 Championships. Claxton then ran the table in the regional tournament, taking away a first place finish and an automatic qualification to the NCAA National Tournament. In the Division II Coaches Poll released on Feb. 22, Claxton was tabbed sixth in the country at 141 pounds. He is currently riding a seven-match win streak and has won 10 of his last 11 bouts, dating back to Dec. 18.
Frank Morgan is no stranger to national competition after having appeared in the NAIA National Tournament three years ago as a sophomore. He is one of two Tornado wrestlers that are returning to the Division II National Tournament after falling just one round short of achieving All-American status in 2011. Last year the Maynardville, Tenn., native took his opponent to double overtime where he lost by one point in the consolation quarterfinals. Morgan was runner-up as a 197 pounder at the regional tournament after achieving an 18-5 overall mark and a 15-3 regional record. The senior recorded four major decisions, two falls and one technical fall. Morgan has won 10 of his last 11 matches and is currently ranked fifth in the country in his weight class.
Brandon Tressler is the second of two King team members returning to the NCAA Tournament after he went 1-2 in last year's competition. After losing his first bout, Tressler rebounded and won his first consolation match. This year, the junior has recovered from a slow start to the season and stands at 20-18 overall, 15-12 against regional opponents. He ended the year with six pins and one major decision. The Orlando, Fla. native has won six of his last nine matches dating back to Jan. 18.
Dondricus Anderson will make his first national tournament appearance as a senior that finished fourth in the region with a 20-14 overall mark. The Macon, Ga., native totaled eight pins and one major decision. He has been on a hot streak as of late, winning six of his last nine matches since Feb. 3. Of those six wins, four have been by fall and three of those pins occurred in the first period.
King is currently 18th in the country and has been in the top-25 since Dec. 7.
The national tournament will run six mats and feature the best 160 wrestlers in the nation. First round action will begin at 11:00 a.m. MT with consolation bouts beginning Friday evening. The tournament is a double elimination event. The top-8 finishers in each 15-man weight class will earn All-American honors with champions and medalists being crowned following Saturday's action.
