NEWBERRY, S.C. – The King University men's wrestling team traveled to take on second-ranked Newberry College on Thursday night. After falling behind early, the Tornado came storming back, but it was enough as the Wolves took the dual 30-9.
King forfeited at 125 before Newberry's Trung Duong took a narrow 7-6 win over D'Marcus Spencer at 133 pounds to extend the lead. The Wolves stretched the lead to 12-0 after William Young took a 7-2 win over Bryce Killian at 141 pounds.
However, Frank Yattoni IV got the Tornado on the board when he pinned Dyllan Greene in 2:46 at 149 pounds to cut the King deficit in half. JA Jones followed with a 6-3 win over William Melko at 157 pounds to pull King within three at 12-9.
Nevertheless, the No. 2 Wolves had an answer. Blake Ridenour got Newberry back on the board with a 7-2 win over Travis Edwards at 164 pounds. Joseph Pittman and Jared Holiday both followed with major decision over Jordan Reece (15-4) and Blaike Henry (18-7) at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively. Newberry's Joe Grisko extended the lead to 27-9 with a 9-1 win over Eldon Valery, Jr. at 197 before Robert Wade took a tough 3-1 win over Garrett Fosdyck at 285.
King will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to take on Alderson Broaddus University. The dual is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
