PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The King University men's wrestling team bounced back from their tough loss at #2 Newberry on Thursday with a dominant performance at Alderson-Broaddus University on Saturday. The Tornado had three pins in their 35-9 victory over the Battlers.
Alderson-Broaddus jumped ahead early as Cody Buchanan took a narrow 9-7 decision over Reed Jacks at 125 pounds, giving the Battlers a 3-0 lead. However, D'Marcus Spencer brought the momentum to King as he pinned Jason West at 133 pounds to give the Tornado a 6-3 advantage. Bryce Killian took a tech fall win, 16-1 in 5:00 over Samuel Jones at 141 to stretch the lead to 11-3.
Frank Yattoni IV and JA Jones followed with decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively. Yattoni won a tight 1-0 bout over Tyler Cross and Jones defeated Spinks 6-5, and the Tornado held a 17-3 lead. Nevertheless, the Battlers cut into the Tornado lead with wins at 165 and 174 pounds before Blaike Henry answered at 184 pounds. Henry pinned Garrett Onderko in 3:00 to give King a 23-9 lead. Eldon Valery, Jr. followed with another pin, topping Nicholas Nester in 3:00 minutes. King took a forfeit at 285 to make the final score 35-9 in favor of the Tornado.
King will be in action again when they travel to Belmont Abbey College. The dual match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
