Lady Tornado Fall Short in 3-1 Loss to Saints
GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lady Tornado fell to 3-5-1 (2-4-1) on the season following a 3-1 defeat to the Limestone Saints on Saturday afternoon. Jamie Grigsby scored her third goal of the season to half the lead with 22 minutes to go but could not complete the comeback.
Junior Jamie Grigsby scored her third goal in the 68th minute of the game to turn a two-goal deficit into a one-goal contest with 22:06 remaining on the clock. The Oak Ridge, Tenn. native had her second consecutive game with a point following her assist against Belmont Abbey on Oct. 4. Rachel Thorpe (Ontario, Canada) recorded an assist on the play for her first points since scoring a goal and an assist against Brevard on Sept. 5.
Limestone scored the game's first goal when Taylor Sanders took a long pass down the middle of the pull and drew King goalkeeper Amanda Huffaker out of the goal and placed a shot past her for a 1-0 lead.
After trailing by the same score coming out of the half, Gabriella Reid added one to the scoreboard for her first of two goals in the match. After Grigsby's goal at 67:54, Reid scored her second of the day 12 minutes later to put the match out of reach.
Thorpe led the Lady Tornado with eight shot attempts in 90 minutes played. Amanda Huffaker made four saves before giving way to freshman Morgan Lawson (Goodview, Va.) who made her collegiate debut and played 22:06.
King (3-5-1, 2-4-1) will play Queens University of Charlotte on Oct. 10 with a 7 p.m. kickoff scheduled. Their road trip concludes at Pfeiffer on Oct. 13 before bringing the show back to Parks Field on Oct. 17.
