Wasps Edge Lady Tornado, 96-83
EMORY, Va. – The Lady Tornado swimming & diving team posted three wins in their dual versus Division III Emory & Henry College on Friday night. Despite an early lead, King lost the meet against the Wasps, 96-83.
After the first relay event, King (4-7) took an early 11-0 lead with a win in the 200-meter medley relay. Rachel Fuller (North Augusta, S.C.), Kelsey Wiese (Gallatin, Tenn.), Kelsey Copeland (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), and Sami Norman (Roanoke, Va.) combined for a 2:23.03 finish time to take the win.
Emory & Henry (5-0) came back to tie the meet in the fourth event of the meet taking wins in the 800 free, 200 free, and 50 free.
Rachel Fuller came back to get King closer to the Wasps, 45-46, with a win in the 100 butterfly. The freshman clocked in a time of 1:11.14 for the victory. The Lady Tornado kept the one-point margin the same after taking second, third, and fourth in the 100 free.
King retook the lead when junior Kelsey Wiese won the 100 back by more than four seconds, touching the wall in 1:10.76. The win gave King a five-point lead, 66-61, before Emory & Henry jumped ahead for the final time in the next event.
Emory & Henry clinched the win in the tenth event when Taylor Guardalabene earned a win in the 100 breaststroke. With a win in the 200 free relay, the Wasps extended the margin of victory to 13 points, 96-83.
The Lady Tornado will return to the pool in a dual with Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, N.C. on Dec. 1. The first event of the meet will be at 1 p.m.
