King Swimming & Diving Sweeps Warren Wilson

The women took 12 event victories on the day, while the men won eight individual events at the meet against the Owls.

SWANNANOA, N.C. – The King men's and women's swimming & diving teams both defeated the Warren Wilson College Owls on Saturday, Dec. 1. The women won 74-41, while the men took a 56-50 victory.

The women got off to a fast start by winning the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay, with the group of Kelsey Wiese (Gallatin, Tenn.), Shirley Langford (Cape Coral, Fla.), Sami Norman (Roanoke, Va.), and Malorie McBride (Nashville, Tenn.) with a time of 2:06.02.

The 100-yard backstroke victory went to Wiese in 1:03.74.  The junior won her third event of the day in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.70. 

Norman picked up another win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:22.97) and took her third win of the meet in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.89).  Langford gave the Lady Tornado another victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.73) and won the 200-yard breaststroke for her third win of the day (2:50.22).

McBride, a senior, picked up her second victory of the day in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:08.52.  Sophomore Jade Schroeder (Titusville, Fla.) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.29) and took the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:54.29. 

Freshman Rachel Fuller (North Augusta, S.C.) took the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.05) and won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.44. 

The men got off to a fast start as well by winning the 400-yard medley relay by 0.18 seconds in a time of 1:53.27. The team consisted of freshmen Phillip Leckenby (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), Quenton Lyons (Louisville, Ky.), Donny Vogelsong (Salem, Va.), and sophomore Jacob Morales (Wailuku, Hawaii).

Morales took his second win of the day in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.96).  Lyons won the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.93) for his second victory of the meet. Junior Alek Nochowicz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:22.15 and picked up another win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.47). 

Freshman Christian Knobloch (Auburn, Wash.) swam a winning time of 23.60 in the 50-yard freestyle and picked up a second win in the 100-yard butterfly (59.97). Freshman Reynold Thibideau (Titusville, Fla.) took the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.42). 

With the wins, the men's team improved to 4-7 on the season, while the Lady Tornado improved to 5-7.  The Lady Tornado are in action again on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Ferrum and will also take on Sweet Briar.  The men are off until after the Christmas Break. They will hit the deck next on Jan. 19 at Mars Hill College (Mars Hill, N.C.).
