MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – The King University women's swimming and diving team came away with a pair of victories Friday night, defeating Pfeiffer University 77-44 and Milligan College 81-39 in a meet hosted by Milligan.
Olivia Langford, a sophomore transfer student from the University of North Florida, headlined the event for the Tornado by winning three individual events. Langford won the 400 meter freestyle in a time of 4:51.32 and the 200 meter IM in 2:33.30. She also finished first in the 800 meter freestyle, helping the Tornado sweep the top two positions in the event with teammate Rachel Fuller finishing in second place.
Fuller followed up that performance with a runner-up finish in the 100 meter butterfly. She was also a member of the 200 meter freestyle relay team, along with Nicole Maldonado, Jade Schroeder, and Kelsey Wiese, that finished in first place.
Like Langford, freshman Nicole Maldonado also won three individual events for the Tornado, sweeping the 50, 100, and 200 meter freestyle events. Her closest margin of victory was 2.81 seconds in the 50 meter race.
Shirley Langford won the 100 meter breaststroke in a time of 1:29.13, while Kelsey Weise finished first in the 100 meter backstroke in 1:11.79.
The 400 meter medley relay also saw a Tornado victory, with Wiese, Shirley Langford, Samantha Vargo, and Schroeder finishing in 4:59.07.
The Tornado will return to action on Friday, November 15. King will be the designated home team when it takes on Emory & Henry College at the Coombs Center in Abingdon, Va.
