King Tennis Starts Season on Right Foot with Victory at Bluefield
BRISTOL, Tenn. – King College men's and women's tennis began their fall season with a match at Bluefield College (Bluefield, Va.) on Tuesday. Both Tornado teams pulled down victories with a clean sweep on the men's side and a 5-4 victory for the women.

The men's team saw winners in all of its singles and doubles matches, highlighted by Pablo Vidal's (Madrid, Spain) 6-2, 6-2 win over Jordan Owens in the top flight. Leo Brigato (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Vitor Villar (Amparo, Brazil) and local products Patrick Jones(Bluff City, Tenn.) and Bronson Roberts (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) all won in straight sets to lead the Tornado to a sweep in singles play.

Villar and Brigato teamed up in the top men's doubles match and defeated Jordan Owens and Chaz Stonestreet, 8-4, while Jones and Seth Hale (Knoxville, Tenn.) paired together for a 8-3 win over Tyler Eastep and Matthew Moore.

"For Vitor [Villar], Bronson [Roberts] and Leo [Brigato] to come out of the gate with wina in their first collegiate matches is great for their careers and the team," said Head Coach Kethan Darbar. "It gives me great hope they will continue to progress over the course of the year."

The Lady Tornado also produced great success on both the individual and doubles stage. Bristol natives Kayla Ketron and Sarah Anderson teamed up for an 8-4 victory over Casey Germain and Leslie Williams in their first doubles match while Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) and Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) also took away a commanding victory over the Rams' Julie Austin and Caitlin Allen, 8-1.

"The ladies doubles put together a better team effort than I expected," said Darbar. "That is a great sign at this point of the season. We played with our lineups a little bit so it was a great showcase for the team to show me and other their capabilities."

Ketron and Anderson also posted wins on the individual level by counts of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Sherrod was victorious over Bluefield's Kalyn Dolan, 6-2, 6-3.

"To pull away with a win in our first match of the season, and on the road, sets a good tone for the beginning of the year," said Darbar. "It is still a long season ahead and there is a lot of work yet to do."

King (1-0) is next scheduled to play Milligan in Johnson City, Tenn. on Friday, Oct. 21.
