Tornado Tennis Finishes Regular Season Against Pikeville

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King Tennis finished its regular season schedules against the University of Pikeville at home on Tuesday afternoon. The men's team fell by a narrow 5-4 decision while the Lady Tornado clipped Pikeville by the same count. The match concludes the regular season for both Tornado teams.

The Tornado men's team took a 2-1 advantage over the Bears after doubles play concluded, taking the top flights by counts of 8-6 and 9-8 (7-4). Pikeville took three of five singles flights to hold off King, 5-4. Lucas Oliveira (PIKE) defeated Seth Hale 6-4, 6-2 in the sixth and final singles match to capture the win for the Bears. Sophomore Pablo Vidal (Madrid, Spain) and Leo Brigato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) both took singles wins away.

The Lady Tornado earned their third win of the season over the Bears women's team, 5-4. Pikeville took two points away after doubles competition concluded, but the Lady Tornado ruled the singles matches as each of the top four singles matches went the way of the Navy and Scarlett. Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) swapped 6-1 decisions with Arantxa Lopez before putting her away with a 6-4 third-set win to clinch the top flight. Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Shae Criswell. Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) and Kayla Ketron (Bristol, Tenn.) each battled to singles victories. It was Sherrod's 6-2, 6-3 win over Hayley Kincaid that clinched the match victory for the Lady Tornado.

Despite the win, the Lady Tornado conclude their season with a 3-16 overall record. Sherrod finished with the best overall record in singles play with a 7-9 mark.

The Tornado men's team will travel to Erskine College to participate in the 2012 Conference Carolinas Tennis Tournament.
