Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll Released, King Eleventh

Conference Carolinas announced the release of the 2013 Preseason Coaches' Poll. King was picked 11th out of 12 teams.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll was recently released by the league office. King University Women's Tennis was selected to finish 11th of 12 teams.

The Lady Tornado will feature a new look with returning only two regular starters from last year's roster that combined for an 8-25 singles record. Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) led the team with a 7-9 overall singles record, mainly out of the No. 4 spot in the lineup. The senior made up half of last year's top doubles flight.

Following the completion of the fall season, freshman Mariana Hosomi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has a 2-1 record in the No. 2 slot to lead the team in singles play. She and senior Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) are 1-2 in doubles play, serving as the team's top flight duo.

Erskine was selected as the preseason favorite, earning 10 of the possible 12 first-place votes. Queens (N.C.) followed closely behind in second with Mount Olive completing the top-three teams. The complete poll is listed below.

King will open the Spring 2013 season at home against regional opponent Mars Hill College on Feb. 16 (1 p.m.). Following their spring season opener against the Lions, they begin a five-match road trip that concludes with Lees-McRae in the continuation of the Battle for the Blue Ridge Cup.
