Tornado top Randolph-Macon 6-3
ASHLAND, Va. – After dropping their first match of the spring, the King University women's tennis team rebounded with a nice win on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado topped Randolph-Macon College 6-3 behind solid singles play.
King (4-3) fell behind early, falling at No. 1 doubles, but the duo of Naomi Reyes and Mariana Hosomi got the Tornado on the board at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Olayemisi Ogunshina and Kelsei Grice 8-5 before Alyssa Salazar and Haley Maloney topped Molly Jesseman and Melissa Tomlin 8-2 at No.3 doubles to give King the lead.
Randolph-Macon (1-1) took wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the King took the other four singles matches. Hosomi topped Toni McDonald 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-1. The Tornado took a win by retirement at No. 4 singles, and Salazar defeated Tomin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Claudia Morris capped the 6-3 win with a 6-3, 2-6, 12-10 win at No. 6 singles.
King will be in action again on Sunday when taking on Conference Carolinas foe University of Mount Olive. First serve from Mount Olive, N.C., is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
