Trojans top King in conference opener

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The King University women's tennis team looked to build off their momentum from yesterday's win as they opened Conference Carolinas play at the University of Mount Olive on Sunday. However, the Trojans took a 7-2 win to had King their first conference loss of the season.

Mount Olive (6-2, 1-1 CC) grabbed the momentum early as the won all three doubles matches.

Naomi Reyes tried to get King on the board at No. 2 singles, but she fell narrowly to Alejandra Hernandez 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Ashley Salazar was on her way to a victory as she led 6-3, 4-1 when her opponent retired. Claudia Morris gave the Tornado (4-4, 0-1 CC) another at No. 6 singles as she defeated Maite Belloso 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

King will be in action again on Tuesday when the host Mars Hill University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
