BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team fell short in its second home match of the spring season on Tuesday afternoon, falling to visiting Mars Hill University by a score of 7-2.
The Tornado (4-5) got a win from Haley Maloney at No. 6 singles as Maloney defeated Mars Hill's Grace Diepenbrock 6-1, 6-2. Maloney's record now sits at 5-3 this season. The King duo of Mariana Hosomi and Naomi Reyes also scored a win at the No. 2 doubles position, dispatching of the Lions' second duo 8-3 to run their record on the season to 5-2 this year.
Mars Hill (3-4) nearly swept the singles competition with five wins in the six matches. Naomi Reyes was locked in a tight battle with Mars Hill's Anna Rickenbaker at No. 2 singles, losing 10-7 in a super tiebreaker after coming back from a 6-4 defeat in the first set to take a 6-4 win of her own in the second. At No. 4 singles, Alyssa Salazar fell 6-3, 6-4 to Jade Henke.
The Tornado continue a busy stretch of the schedule with a match at North Greenville tomorrow. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
