Women’s Track and Field Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The 2012 Conference Carolinas Women's Track and Field Coaches'  Poll was released today, tabbing King College fourth of eight in a set of rankings that may leave for much parody this season.

King, who has already competed twice in the 2012 indoor season, was ranked fourth of eight teams in the Conference Carolinas women's poll. They received 31 points, edging out Queens University of Charlotte (28) while earning one of the eight first place votes. The Lady Tornado is one of five teams to receive at least one first place vote.

The team has already competed in two indoor meets at the Appalachian Open and Liberty Open. In last weekend's Liberty Open, King athletes set three school indoor records, two on the women's side. Kendra Sokol set the 5,000-meter indoor school record with an 18:43.93 time while teammate Danielle Alfano finished the one-mile run with a 5:19.77 finish, also setting a new indoor school record.

In just its fourth year of competition, Mount Olive College won the 2011 Conference Carolinas Women's Track and Field Championship and have been chosen as this year's preseason favorite by league head coaches. The Trojans collected 200 points at last year's championship, finishing 49 points ahead of the nearest competitor.

The Limestone College women's track and field program has been selected to finish second in the 2012 Conference Carolinas Coaches' Preseason poll for the second consecutive year, after a successful three year run that includes back-to-back Conference Championships (2009-10) and runner-up finish last season.

The Lady Tornado will compete in the Fast Track College Invitational, held in Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend (Feb. 11). They will engage in three meets before the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships held March 9-10. They will begin the outdoor season shortly after at the Charlotte 49er Classic (Charlotte, N.C.) on March 16-17.
