WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The King University women's track and field team continued to prepare for the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships later this month as the competed at the Hilton Garden Invitational this weekend at JDLFastTrack. The Tornado set three personal records at the meet that featured many NCAA Division I athletes.
Eliza Parker turned in an indoor personal record time of 18:27.16 in the 5,000 meter run. The Tornado performed well in the shot put as Christina Atkinson and Jaleessa Kennedy both set personal bests. Atkinson's toss of 11.16 meters set a personal best while Kennedy had a toss of 10.72 meters. Maegan Henry also continued her stellar season to date in the shot put as she qualified for the finals where she placed seventh with a toss of 13.31 meters.
Shelbie Burchfield had a good weekend in both the high jump and 400 meter run. For the second time this season, Burchfield posted a high jump of 1.60 meters, only 0.02 off her career indoor best. In the 400 meters, she posted a time of 1:04.68.
King will be in action again next weekend at the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State University.
